“Hero” is a 2002 historical action film directed by Zhang Yimou with script by Feng Li, Bin Wang and Zhang Yimou. The film stars Jet Li, Tony Leung, Maggie Cheung, Chen Daoming, Zhang Zivi, and Donnie Yen. The film follows a nameless protagonist (Jet Li) as he tries to assassinate the King of Qin in 227 BC. The movie also focuses on three other assassins that had attempted to kill the King of Qin as well and tells of their tragic fates. This film is beautifully filmed and has the best art direction of any film I have ever watched. This movie offers amazing action sequences, a heart breaking love story, amazing scenery as it showcases the different seasons, and offers commentary on what it is to be a warrior, and what it takes to unify a nation.
The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Kirkland Signature American Pale Ale. This Cost Branded Beer, and possibly brewed by Gordon Biersch has, an ABV of 5.4%. This beer pours a pale amber color with a big white head and lots of lacing. It smells of floral notes and slightly of malt. It is a malty tasting beer with some hops to mellow out the strong bitterness with hints of caramel. It reminds of me of older northwest style APAs. This beer goes well with the film because it has enough to it add to the film without distracting you with any imperfections. You will get lost in the film and in this beer. It is a very enjoyable combination.
