“The Town” Paired With Sierra Nevada’s Pale Ale

“The Town” is a 2010 crime drama co-written and directed by Ben Affleck, with Peter Craig and Aaron Stockard being the other co-writers.  The film is based on the book “Prince Of Thieves” by Chuck Hogan.  The film stars Affleck, Rebecca Hall, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively, Titus Welliver, Pete Postlethwaite, and Chris Cooper.  The film focuses on a group of bank robbers that want to get out of the game, but only after they rob the Cash Room at Fenway Park.  The action sequences are tense and brutal, the script is smart, and the direction given the film is effective.  This is a straightforward crime film, but it is a bit more uplifting that most.  Renner was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Sierra Nevada Brewing Company’s Pale Ale.  The beer has an ABV of 5.6%.  It pours an orange-amber color with a bigger white head.  It smells earthy, citrusy, piney and a little like a hot dinner roll.  It tastes like it smells – earth, pine resin, citrus, bread with flowery and spicy notes.  It is well balanced, dry, and crisp.  It is an uplifting interpretation of an American Pale Ale.  I picked this beer to go with this film because they are both great spins within their genres.
