“X-Men: First Class” is a 2011 superhero film directed by Matthew Vanghn, and script by Vaughn, Ashley Edward Miller, Zack Stentz, and Jane Goldman. The film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon. The film rests on the relationship between Professor Charles Xavier (McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Fassbender) who both have unique gifts and differ greatly on how to use those gifts. They each form a group based on those beliefs – the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants. The Hellfire Club is a third group of people with gifts, head by Sebastian Shaw (Bacon) to brings all three groups into conflict during the Cuban Missile Crisis of the early 1960s. Vaughn makes a superhero movie about the differing heady motivations each group has and incorporates that into the mayhem. Vaughn brings some freshness to the genre that is welcomed.
The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Bitburger Brewery’s Premium Pils. This German-style Pilsner has an ABV of 5.2%. The beer is a bright, fresh golden color and rich frothy head. It smells of malts and grains. You get a wave of green, grass, and herbal notes, followed by a nutty and honeyed aftertaste. It is medium bodied with strong carbonation. There is something special here. I chose this beer because Erik Lehnsherr orders this in a bar while on a quest to get some information. You will find there is something special his character as you enjoy this special beer.
