“The Perfect Date” Movie Paired With Omission Brewing’s Ultimate Light Golden Ale

“The Perfect Date” is a 2019 romantic comedy, directed by Chris Nelson, with script by Steve Bloom and Randell Green, based on the novel “The Stand-In”.  It stars Noah Centineo, Laura Marano, Camila Mendes, Odiseas Georgiadis, and Matt Walsh.  The film follows high school senior Brooks (Centineo) who becomes an escort for the high school set who need a plus one or practice dates using an app his friend sets up for him.  He meets the spirited Celia (Marano) and predictably romance is in the air and it complicates things for Brooks.  Netflix and Hallmark make a lot of these rom coms.  They are predictable, not too heavy, or deep, and flawed but the character’s in the film are charming and show the viewers an enjoyable escape.  This film follows the model, and it is enjoyable escapism.  It was released on Netflix.

The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Omission Brewing Company’s Ultimate Light Golden Ale.  Omission Brewing is owned by the Widmer Brothers Brewing Company.  This American Blonde Ale has an ABV of 4.2%.  This is a Gluten Free beer made with 99 calories per 12 ounce serving.  It pours clear golden with a little white head that disappears immediately.  You get an interesting combination of hops and malt suggesting citrus and bread.  You pick up on a higher amount of carbonation, pineapple, apple, some sweetness, and a touch of grass and herbal notes when it hits your tongue.  I picked this beer because it is gluten free and lower in calories, with a lot more flavor than mass produced light beers but also enjoyable escapism.  While watching this film along with you this beer you can indulge in two forms of escapism.
