“Knives Out” paired with Ninkasi Brewing’s Tricerahops Double IPA

“Knives Out” is a 2019 mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson.  It stars Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, Lakeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer.  This film puts a modern twist on the classic whodunit.  It follows the police, who is working with a private detective, investigation of the death of the patriarch of a rich who seemingly committed suicide.  Rain Johnson finds a way to change the game of the genre, make a sly political statement, and let the cast poke fun at as well as embrace everything about a good old fashion murder-mystery.  The film did very well at the box office.  It was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Craig) and Best Actress (de Armas) in the Musical or Comedy category.  A sequel is in development.

The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Ninkasi Brewing Company’s Tricerahops Double IPA.  This American-Style India Pale Ale uses twice the number of hops and malts as you would normally use in an IPA to produce a beer with a higher alcohol content.  This beer has an ABV of 8%.  It is a golden color with a off white head.  You will pick up on peach, apricot, pine, and bread with your nose.  It tastes of tropical and stone fruits with bitterness balancing it out.  This beer has a medium mouth feel and is milder than most Double or Imperial IPAs.  It is a great tasting beer.  I can see pairing this with short bread cookies in addition to this film.  This movie has some twists to it, so you want a choose one quality beer to go with the film, instead of a lot of mass-produced beers, so you do not miss any clues.  This beer will satisfy your inner Sherlock Holmes.
