“Da 5 Bloods” paired with Silver City Brewing’s Magnificent Bastard Scotch Ale

“Da 5 Bloods” is a 2020 war drama directed Spike Lee, with the first draft of the script written by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo, with final draft written by Lee and Kevin Willmott.  The film stars Delroy Lindo, Jonathan Majors, Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Melanie Thierry, Paul Walter Hauser, Jasper Paakkonen, Jean Reno and Chadwick Boseman.  The movie follows a group of African American Vietnam War veterans who return to the ‘Nam look for their friend’s remains while they look for the treasure they buried so long ago.  The film explores the groups drama and action in the war and today.  The director and the actors will most likely be nominated for their share of Academy Awards and Golden Globes based on the strength of their performances, the direction, and the script. Lee ties events from the 60s in the film to today’s Black Lives Matter movement in tidy ending credit scenes.  The critics loved this film.  The movie was released on Netflix.

The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Silver City Brewing’s Magnificent Bastard Scotch Ale.  This beer has an ABV of 9.9%.  This is a dark brown in color with an off-white head that disappears quickly.  It smells of toffee and scotch.  There many flavors that hit your tongue chocolate, toffee, apple, pear, vanilla, nuts, and bit of peaty scotch.  It has a medium mouthfeel and dry finish.  This is a really good beer.  I chose this one because the director and cast will be winning so many awards for movie, you will think of them as Magnificent Bastards.
