“Mid90s” is a 2018 coming-of-age film written and directed by Jonah Hill, who makes his directorial debut. The movie stars Sunny Suljic, Lucas Hedges, and Katherine Waterson. The film follows a 13-year old boy who finds his place with a group of older skateboarders in L.A. during the mid 90s. The movie explores how tribes of young people come together. It shows them trying to figure out how to care about and support each other. It takes you through the trials of being a teen and how that goes for them together and apart. The film ends with a video that one of the skater boys put together to show off their glory days. This is Hills first time directing and it shows. There are dramatic moments followed by uneven storytelling. It does create a consistent harsh tone throughout. Hill will have other writing and directing gigs in his future and should be able to work those kinks out. The film got mostly positive reviews.
The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this with Olympia Beer by the Pabst Brewing Company. This is an American Lager with an ABV of 4.78%. It is a clear golden yellow with a white head that collapses right away. It has a light grainy aroma. The beer tastes crisp and light as well as not too dry or sweet. It will taste great in the summer heat of L.A. after a day of skating and trash talking with your friends better than an expensive craft beer ever could. You will be able to cool down as your day gives into partying.
