“The Spy Who Dumped Me” is a 2018 comedy directed by Susanna Fogel, who also wrote the script with David Iserson. The film stars Mila Kunis, Kate McKinnon, Justin Theroux, Sam Heughan, Hasan Minhaj, and Gillian Anderson. The film follows two friends (Kunis and McKinnon) who are being chased all over Europe by assassins after one of their ex-boyfriends turns out to be a CIA agent. The film attempts to combine several genres: a buddy movie, a spy film, a comedy, and action flick. It does a good job of balancing those elements into a funny and enjoyable movie. The film got mostly positive reviews and were focused on the great performances of McKinnon and Kunis.
The Beer Lover’s Guide to the Movies pairs this film with Rouge Ales’ Batsquatch Hazy IPA. This New England style India Pale Ale has an ABV of 6.7%. It has a hazy apple juice look to it, that made me think that this is what a sasquatch’s hair would look like with a white foamy head with some that color in it. It tastes of tropical and stone fruits mixed with an almost pumpkin flavor. The finish is dry and with very mild bitterness. The beer is good hybrid of elements. The movie works well this beer because it also is a nice mixture of things.
