“The Healer” is a 2017 family movie written and directed by Paco Arango. It stars Camilla Luddington, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Kaitlyn Bernard with Jorge Garcia and Jonathan Pryce in supporting roles. The film centers on a troubled Handyman who discovers he can heal people. He struggles with this power as he is tested by a teenage girl who is dying of cancer, and the guilt of losing his twin brother to the disease as well. The film has “wholesome” and “cute” on display throughout but suffers from lack of focus and tone. The cinematography captures the beauty of Nova Scotia, Canada where the film takes place. All the money raised from this film goes to support the Paul Newman Foundation for children with cancer.
The Beer Lover’s Guide to the Movies pairs this film with Reuben’s Brews Crush Cancer Hazy IPA. This India Pale Ale has an ABV of 6.0%. This beer provides a very intense and lush tropical aroma. It is a big juicy beer. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this beer go to Pacific Northwest cancer research non-profits. This beer is not a mass-produced beer and you will have to seek it out. I would go to Reuben’s Brews website or give them a call. The beer is good and is born out of people close to Reuben’s Brews being touched by cancer. So, watch the film and drink this beer and support non-profits that help kids affected by cancer and are assisting to find a cures and better treatments for these diseases.
