The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a 2012 coming of age film written and directed by Stephen Chbosky, based on his 1999 novel. The story is about Charlie, portrayed by Logan Lerman, the new kid in high school and how he goes about making friends while dealing with anxiety and depression. The film also stars Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Mae Whitman, Nina Dobrev, and Paul Rudd. The film shows us the sense of belonging young people can have with each other and how delicate that is, while they deal with the trials of adolescence, as a group of friends, dealing with high school, mental health, introversion, siblings, drug use, sexuality, rape, and graduation and what comes next. The film was made my Mr. Mudd Productions, who were behind Ghost World and Juno. This is a smaller film, and it did well enough at the box office and with the critics.

The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this movie with Hale’s Ale Brewery’s Palladium Pale. This is an American Pale Ale with an ABV of 4.9%. This beer pleases with aromas of sweet grass and oranges, has a light body and slightly bitter finish. I chose this beer, because it is like the cheap mass-produced beer, we all had when young, but elevated into something better, much like the kids at the end of the movie.
