Rocketman is a 2019 biographical picture about musician Elton John’s life. It is directed by Dexter Fletcher and stars Taron Egerton as Elton John, with Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Howard. The movie looks at the first half of John’s life, from his early days at the Royal Academy of Music, through his partnership with Bernie Taupin, till the 1980s. It takes us through John’s life, looking at his relationship struggles with his family, as well as the people in the music industry, the pressures of stardom, his sexuality, drug use, and the demons driving him in a very frank way. The character’s in the film break into musical numbers throughout the film. The film also features some of John’s stage performances. The film takes some liberties with John’s timeline, so do not be so concerned with accuracy. This film was a hit at the box office, with critics and won two Golden Globes and an Oscar.
The Beer Lover’s Guide To The Movies pairs this film with Iron Horse Brewery’s High Five Hefe. The beer is an American Wheat Ale, with an ABV of 6.0%. It has a less grainy flavor and notable zesty, citrus presence. The aroma is slightly floral and has a touch of sweetness. I choose this beer because of the scene in the movie where Elton John debuts at the Troubadour, and the crowd is lifted by his music, because that is how I feel when sipping this beer.
